A Dance of Lies by Brittany Arena.
Sometimes I have to tell myself that just because its a pretty book and a fairy loot book of the month... that it doesn't always qualify as a good book. While yes, the book its self is gorgeous and will captivate the average book collector... it lacks about 65% of what makes a good book, a good book. The writing was hard to follow, and maybe I was just reading it too fast because I wanted to get it over with. The love triangle between the FMC and the two other love interest was very short lived. I honestly didn't even knew it was happening. At one point in the book she hated this guy or just seemed to "tolerate" him, and then the next all she could think about was his touch and the warmth of his skin. Considering the FMC was in jail for like two years I get it, but like girl come onnnnnn. At least stand your guard a little bit, just because some rando touched you DOES NOT mean you have to go head over heels for the guy.
So yea.. the love triangle lasted about two pages and then turned into just your regular romantasy with the muscular king that *obviously* has brown hair, super tall, and treats ms girl like royalty. Oh and the FMC is your typical skinny, petite, super attractive, girl that grabs the attention of literally every guy ever. GIVE ME SOMETHING DIFFERENT.
anyway...
The FMC has a disability that causes some of her dances to be harder then others or to do simple tasks takes twice the amount of time as others. That was kind of nice to read about since I can relate to that a bit. Sometimes tho it didn't make any sense because she would be able to do things in one part of the book but then in another part she couldn't?? I don't know it seemed like the author really leaned into a "mind of matter" kind of thing just to keep the plot moving.
So my final thoughts are three stars. The writing was ok, but hard to understand and got very lengthy at times. I think she had a hard time explaining the castle and the "stained glass" aesthesis. I think its a cute idea but it wasn't executed correctly.
Ok anyway thanks for reading and stuff.
Also, follow me on goodreads :P
